Wilks-Newman.20a - Nimrod Newman

"Payne - Newman.

In 1769 Josiah Payne was given permission to erect a grist mill on Little Otter River (DB#3, p. 547) in the Otter Hill Community. In 1778 the tract was passed to Nimrod Newman. In 1778 Nimrod's younger brother, Conrad, also was granted permission to erect a mill on Little Otter River. It is believed that Nimrod Newman and his brother, Conrad (the mountain people referred to him as "Coonrad") came to America from Germany.
